CVE-2024-6047
GeoVision EOL device - OS Command Injection
Description
Certain EOL GeoVision devices fail to properly filter user input for the specific functionality. Unauthenticated remote attackers can exploit this vulnerability to inject and execute arbitrary system commands on the device.
In plain language
AI Act nowGeoVision EOL security cameras/DVR-related devices with this firmware can be tricked over the network into running commands on the device without any login—if you still use them, you should act now because attackers can take over the box.
CVE-2024-6047 is an unauthenticated network command injection (CWE-78) in GeoVision gv-dsp lpr, gv-bx130, gv-bx1500, gv-cb220, gv-ebl1100, gv-efd1100, gv-fd2410, gv-fd3400, gv-fe3401, and gv-fe420 firmware; the weakness lets an attacker inject and execute arbitrary system commands without authentication.
What to do now
- Check whether any of your GeoVision devices are in this list (gv-dsp lpr, gv-bx130, gv-bx1500, gv-cb220, gv-ebl1100, gv-efd1100, gv-fd2410, gv-fd3400, gv-fe3401, gv-fe420) and confirm they are running the affected firmware.
- If you have affected devices, stop exposing them to the internet immediately (remove port forwards, unblock any WAN access, and ensure only local/network-approved access is allowed).
- Retire or replace the affected GeoVision EOL devices, since vendor support is no longer available.
- If retirement/replacement is not immediately possible, apply compensating network controls: restrict remote access using network firewalls so the devices cannot be reached from untrusted networks.
- Document the change, then monitor for suspicious traffic to the devices’ network addresses (unexpected requests from external IPs or unusual command patterns).
