ColdFusion | Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal') (CWE-22)
Description
ColdFusion versions 2025.9, 2023.20 and earlier are affected by an Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal') vulnerability that could lead to arbitrary code execution in the context of the current user. Exploitation of this issue does not require user interaction. Scope is changed.
In plain language
AI Worth attentionIf you run Adobe ColdFusion, this path-traversal bug lets an attacker read or manipulate files outside the allowed area and potentially run code—so you should update soon if your ColdFusion server is exposed to the network.
CVE-2026-48282 is a path traversal (CWE-22) flaw in Adobe ColdFusion (affected versions: 2025.9, 2023.20 and earlier) that can allow attackers to access restricted files and potentially achieve code execution in the context of the current user over the network.
What to do now
- Check whether your business runs Adobe ColdFusion and identify your exact version (especially if it is 2025.9, 2023.20, or older).
- If ColdFusion is reachable from the internet (or from less-trusted networks), prioritize an update now; otherwise include it in your next urgent maintenance window.
- Upgrade ColdFusion using the fix guidance in Adobe APSB26-68 (Adobe’s security advisory for CVE-2026-48282), moving to the fixed build(s) listed there.
- After updating, verify the ColdFusion service is running the new version and review application/server logs for unusual file access or errors around the time of changes.
