Description
Vulnerability in the Oracle Solaris product of Oracle Systems (component: Filesystem). The supported version that is affected is 11.4. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows low privileged attacker with logon to the infrastructure where Oracle Solaris executes to compromise Oracle Solaris. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle Solaris accessible data and unauthorized ability to cause a hang or frequently repeatable crash (complete DOS) of Oracle Solaris. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 7.1 (Confidentiality and Availability impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:H).
In plain language
AI Worth attentionCVE-2026-46914 is a filesystem flaw in Oracle Solaris 11.4 that lets a low-privileged attacker crash the system and potentially access sensitive data if they can log in to your Solaris host; a typical small business should act if it runs this specific version.
Unauthenticated access is not indicated, but CWE-269/CWE-400 points to improper trust/handling in a filesystem component of Oracle Solaris 11.4, where a low-privileged attacker with a logon to the host can compromise the system’s confidentiality and reliability (including repeatable crashes/denial of service).
What to do now
- Check whether your environment is running Oracle Solaris 11.4 (this issue is specifically for 11.4 per the finding).
- Review Oracle’s security alert for CVE-2026-46914 and identify the exact patch/fix it provides for your Solaris 11.4 update stream.
- Plan and apply the vendor remediation from Oracle’s security alert as soon as possible, following Oracle’s upgrade/patching procedure for your maintenance window.
- If you cannot patch immediately, reduce the chance of a low-privileged login from untrusted networks (tighten access controls and limit who can log in to the Solaris host), and monitor the host for instability or repeated crashes.
