In plain language
AI Act nowThis Microsoft Exchange Server privilege-escalation bug can let an attacker with only low-level access use network access to gain higher control of the server; if you run Exchange, you should patch promptly.
CVE-2026-45504 is a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) issue in Microsoft Exchange Server that allows an authorized attacker with low privileges to elevate to higher privileges over the network, with no user interaction required.
What to do now
- Check whether your email platform is Microsoft Exchange Server (including Exchange Server 2016 CU23, Exchange Server 2019 Cumulative Update 14 or 15, or Exchange Server Subscription Edition/RTM) and identify your exact installed build.
- Verify your Exchange build matches the vulnerable versions listed in the patch cards (any build earlier than the fixed versions).
- Upgrade Exchange Server to the fixed version for your edition: Subscription Edition (fixed in 15.02.2562.043), Exchange Server 2016 Cumulative Update 23 (fixed in 15.01.2507.069), Exchange Server 2019 Cumulative Update 14 (fixed in 15.02.1544.041), or Exchange Server 2019 Cumulative Update 15 (fixed in 15.02.1748.046).
- If you cannot patch immediately, restrict access paths to Exchange as much as possible (limit who can reach Exchange over the network) and ensure only required accounts have low-level access to Exchange services until the upgrade is complete.
