Steps

Written by AI from the record
  1. Ask your database/IT team whether MarkLogic Server is in use and which version is running.
  2. If running any 12.x release before 12.1.0, or any 11.x release before 11.3.7, treat it as exposed.
  3. Upgrade to MarkLogic Server 11.3.7 (11.x branch) or 12.1.0 (12.x branch) as soon as possible.
  4. After upgrading, have logged-in users re-authenticate so any potentially hijacked sessions are invalidated.
  5. Restrict who can reach the MarkLogic REST/XDBC interfaces from outside your network while you plan the upgrade.

What it is

From the CVE record

Progress MarkLogic Server 12.x releases before 12.1.0 and 11.x releases before 11.3.7 do not sufficiently isolate user-supplied code executed through certain REST and XDBC evaluation paths from HTTP request, response, and session state. An attacker able to execute code through an affected path could perform unauthorized actions or compromise an authenticated session.

In plain language

Written by AI from the record

A critical flaw in Progress MarkLogic Server lets an attacker who can trick a logged-in user into clicking something hijack that user's session and take unauthorized actions — if you run MarkLogic, you should patch now even though no attacks have been seen yet.

CWE-346 insufficient isolation flaw in MarkLogic Server's REST/XDBC code-evaluation paths allows user-supplied code to bleed into HTTP request/response/session state, enabling session compromise and unauthorized actions when a victim is lured into a crafted interaction (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R, CVSS 9.6).

If you're affected

  • Admin session hijacking
  • Unauthorized data access or changes
  • Full application compromise
  • Database integrity risk
