CVE-2026-65658
Microsoft SharePoint Server Remote Code Execution Vulnerability
Description
Deserialization of untrusted data in Microsoft Office SharePoint allows an authorized attacker to execute code over a network.
In plain language
AI Act nowCVE-2026-65658 is a Microsoft SharePoint Server flaw where an attacker who has a valid SharePoint login can send specially crafted data to run malicious code on the server; you should patch if you run SharePoint, because it’s a remote code execution risk.
CVE-2026-65658 is a remote code execution vulnerability in Microsoft SharePoint Server caused by insecure handling of received data structures (untrusted deserialization), enabling an authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code on the server without user interaction.
What to do now
- Check which Microsoft SharePoint Server edition and version you run (2016, 2019, Subscription Edition, or the general “SharePoint Server”) and confirm whether you have the fixed build listed below.
- Update Microsoft SharePoint Server to the fixed versions: 16.0.19725.20522 (SharePoint Server and Subscription Edition), 16.0.5565.1001 (SharePoint Enterprise Server 2016), or 16.0.10417.20198 (SharePoint Server 2019).
- If you can’t patch right away, temporarily restrict who can access SharePoint and tighten network access so fewer systems/users can reach the SharePoint server, and monitor for suspicious logins and unusual activity.
