What to do now

  1. Check which systems run Microsoft Windows Print Spooler (printing enabled and Print Spooler service present) and note their exact Windows version/build.
  2. Compare your Windows version/build to the fixed versions below and identify which machines are behind.
  3. Patch the affected Windows machines to the fixed builds listed for your branch (do not stop at “a newer update” if it’s not the specific fixed build).
  4. If patching will take time, reduce exposure by disabling the Print Spooler service on machines that do not need printing, and restrict network access to printer-related services to only trusted admins/hosts.
