CVE-2025-31702
Description
A vulnerability exists in certain Dahua embedded products. Third-party malicious attacker with obtained normal user credentials could exploit the vulnerability to access certain data which are restricted to admin privileges, such as system-sensitive files through specific HTTP request. This may cause tampering with admin password, leading to privilege escalation. Systems with only admin account are not affected.
In plain language
AI Act nowSome Dahua IP cameras can be tricked over the network by an attacker who already has a normal (non-admin) login to grab admin-only data and change the admin password—this is an active, real-world risk for exposed devices.
CVE-2025-31702 is an authorization bypass (CWE-732) in certain Dahua embedded products that allows an attacker with valid normal user credentials to send specific HTTP requests to read admin-restricted data and modify the admin password, leading to full device control; network access is involved and default reachability is reported as possible.
What to do now
- Check whether you use any of these Dahua IP camera models: dh-ipc-hfw1230s1-a-s5, dh-ipc-hdw1230t1-a-s5, dh-ipc-hfw1239s1-a-led-s5, dh-ipc-hdw1239t1-a-led-s5, dh-ipc-hfw1230s-a-s5, dh-ipc-hfw1239s1-led-s5, dh-ipc-hdw1230t-a-s5, dh-ipc-hfw1230tl2-s5, dh-ipc-hdw1230t2-s5, dh-ipc-hfw1439tl1-pv.
- Verify the camera’s current firmware/software version from the device admin UI and compare it to the vendor’s Trusted Center guidance for CVE-2025-31702.
- Upgrade the device firmware to the version(s) specified in Dahua’s Trusted Center advisory (see the vendor remediation link in the advisory).
- If you cannot update immediately, restrict network access so these cameras are not reachable from the public internet (use firewall rules/VPN-only access) and reduce exposure of the affected service ports.
- Review authentication and admin-password change activity around the time of any suspicious login attempts, and rotate admin passwords after patching.
