Steps
Written by AI from the record- Check whether you run Oracle WebLogic Server versions 10.3.6.0, 12.1.3.0, or 12.2.1.3.
- Check whether the server’s T3 service/port is reachable from outside your network (i.e., from other machines or the internet).
- If either is true, plan an urgent upgrade to the fixed Oracle Fusion Middleware / WebLogic remediation described in Oracle’s CPU October 2018 advisory for CVE-2018-3245.
- After upgrading, re-test that T3 is not exposed externally and confirm the service is working as expected.
What it is
From the CVE record
Vulnerability in the Oracle WebLogic Server component of Oracle Fusion Middleware (subcomponent: WLS Core Components). Supported versions that are affected are 10.3.6.0, 12.1.3.0 and 12.2.1.3. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via T3 to compromise Oracle WebLogic Server. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in takeover of Oracle WebLogic Server. CVSS 3.0 Base Score 9.8 (Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H).
In plain language
Written by AI from the recordCVE-2018-3245 is a critical Oracle WebLogic Server flaw where anyone on the network can connect and take over the server without a login; if your business runs affected WebLogic Server versions and the T3 service is reachable, you should act immediately.
Unauthenticated remote takeover of Oracle WebLogic Server via the T3 network port is possible because a weakness in how the server processes data from the T3 connection lets an attacker bypass security controls and fully hijack the running instance.
