Description
The Office Open XML (OOXML) feature in Adobe ColdFusion 10 before Update 21 and 11 before Update 10 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files or send TCP requests to intranet servers via a crafted OOXML spreadsheet containing an external entity declaration in conjunction with an entity reference, related to an XML External Entity (XXE) issue.

AI Worth attentionCVE-2016-4264 is a ColdFusion weakness where a remote attacker can use a specially made Excel file to read files on your server (and possibly make connections into your private network); if you run Adobe ColdFusion 10 or 11 and haven’t installed the listed updates, you should act now.
CVE-2016-4264 is an XML External Entity (XXE) issue in the Office Open XML (OOXML) handling in Adobe ColdFusion 10 (before Update 21) and ColdFusion 11 (before Update 10), allowing remote, unauthenticated attackers to trigger arbitrary file reads and/or server-side TCP requests using a crafted OOXML spreadsheet.
What to do now
- Check whether your system runs Adobe ColdFusion 10 or Adobe ColdFusion 11 and note whether you are past Update 21 (ColdFusion 10) or Update 10 (ColdFusion 11).
- If you are on ColdFusion 10 and the server is not at Update 21 or later, plan an upgrade to ColdFusion 10 Update 21.
- If you are on ColdFusion 11 and the server is not at Update 10 or later, plan an upgrade to ColdFusion 11 Update 10.
- Review whether your app accepts or processes Office/OOXML files (Excel uploads, imports, templates) and ensure those upload/import features are protected while you patch.
