What it is
From the CVE record
A vulnerability in the Remote Access SSL VPN service of Cisco Secure Firewall Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software and Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause the device to reload unexpectedly, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition. This vulnerability is due to logic errors when secondary authentication is configured on a tunnel group. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted request when connecting to the SSL remote access VPN. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the affected device to reload, resulting in a DoS condition.
In plain language
Written by AI from the recordA flaw in Cisco's firewall VPN software can let an attacker crash the device remotely, and no fix is available yet, so businesses using these firewalls for remote access VPN should pay attention.
CWE-690 logic error in the Remote Access SSL VPN tunnel-group secondary authentication handling of Cisco ASA/FTD allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to send a crafted connection request and force a device reload (DoS); no patch currently exists and a public exploit is available.
If you're affected
- Remote access outage
- Network downtime
- VPN service disruption
- Repeated crash/reload cycles
