Steps

Written by AI from the record
  1. Check your RouterOS version in the RouterOS UI (or via your existing management tooling).
  2. If you are on RouterOS 7.x, upgrade to 7.24.2 (Stable) or 7.23.4 (Long-term) as your fixed release.
  3. Review whether SSH access is reachable from the internet; restrict it to trusted IPs/VPN only.
  4. After upgrading, verify SSH login behavior and confirm that only intended users can access the router remotely.

What it is

From the CVE record

RouterOS does not compare the complete RSA public key when matching an SSH authentication request to an authorized user key, checking the key type and modulus but omitting the exponent. Because signature verification uses the client-supplied key, an attacker knowing an authorized RSA modulus can supply a key with exponent one, forge a valid signature, and open an SSH command channel as the target user without the private key. This issue affects only 7.x branch was fixed in versions: 7.23.4 (Long-term) and 7.24.2 (Stable)

In plain language

Written by AI from the record

In some MikroTik RouterOS versions, an attacker may be able to log in as another SSH user; if you expose RouterOS SSH to the internet, this is serious and you should update to 7.24.2 or 7.23.4.

CVE-2026-67276 is an SSH authentication flaw in MikroTik RouterOS where the server does not fully match the authorized RSA public key parameters (not comparing the complete key, omitting the exponent), enabling SSH user impersonation via forged authentication for an SSH session as another user; fixed in RouterOS 7.24.2 and 7.23.4.

If you're affected

  • Unauthorized router configuration changes
  • Service disruption for internet access
  • Traffic interception or rerouting
  • Device takeover under a real user
