In plain language
AI Worth attentionCVE-2018-1143 lets anyone on the internet run commands as the root account on certain Belkin N750 routers without logging in, so if your Belkin N750 is reachable from outside, you should treat this as a real security risk.
Unauthenticated remote command execution exists in the Belkin N750 (firmware 1.10.22) via a crafted HTTP request to twonky_command.cgi, enabling attackers to execute system commands as root.
What to do now
- Check whether you use a Belkin N750 router model (including “n750 db wi-fi dual-band n+ gigabit router (f9k1103)”) and whether it is running firmware 1.10.22.
- If you are on firmware 1.10.22, update to the vendor’s fixed firmware as soon as it’s available for your model.
- If you cannot update right away, restrict access so the router’s web/admin endpoints are not reachable from the internet (allow only trusted internal devices).
- After changes, verify from your router/admin interface that external access is disabled and that the router is functioning normally.
