Description
Linksys E1000 devices through 2.1.02, E1200 devices before 2.0.05, and E3200 devices through 1.0.04 allow OS command injection via shell metacharacters in the apply.cgi ping_ip parameter on TCP port 52000.
In plain language
AI Act nowSome older Linksys routers (E1000, E1200, E3200) can be tricked from the internet to run harmful commands via a “ping” feature, and attackers have already used this in the real world—so you should act if you run affected models.
CVE-2013-3307 is a remote operating system command injection in Linksys e1000/e1200/e3200 routers’ apply.cgi ping_ip parameter on TCP port 52000, allowing attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands without authentication or user interaction; real-world router malware (AryStinger) has exploited it.
What to do now
- Check whether your business uses a Linksys e1000, e1200, or e3200 router and identify its firmware version.
- For e1200 routers, upgrade to a version fixed in 2.0.05 (or later).
- If you cannot upgrade to a known fixed version for your specific model (e1000/e3200), disconnect the router from the internet/VPN edges and replace it with a supported model/firmware.
- After changes, review router and firewall logs for unexpected inbound requests to TCP port 52000 and any signs the router is being used for scanning or relaying traffic.
